What Is CrossFit?
CrossFit is core training, weightlifting, gymnastics, and everything in between. The exercises you perform during CrossFit elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible, optimizing physical competence in every one of the ten recognized fitness domains: cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.
Why Does OnePlus Use CrossFit?
CrossFit and its principles align perfectly with what we believe in. It is a comprehensive approach to fitness that we believe provides everything necessary for optimal physical fitness.
The core strength and conditioning training that CrossFit provides gives a perfect foundation for all athletic fields. Much like the ‘core curriculum’ at colleges and universities, it provides the base training that everyone needs to succeed.
It also focuses on a more literal ‘core’ – the core of athletes’ bodies. It focuses on hip extension and trunk or torso rotation. Without proper core training, running, jumping, throwing, and punching all become more difficult to properly execute. CrossFit is the only way to train your core to its peak.
Types of Training
There is no other strength and conditioning program that works with a greater diversity of tools, modalities, and drills than CrossFit. That’s because its creators knew that a strong foundation is necessary for strong health. When we practice CrossFit at OnePlus, we focus on drills and modalities like:
Aerobic and Anaerobic Exercises
These exercises focus on different ways for the body to create energy. They support performance variables like strength, power, speed, and endurance.
Olympic Weightlifting
The clean and jerk and the snatch, the two types of Olympic weightlift, help develop the squat, deadlift, power clean, and split jerk, all in one movement. They help athletes activate more muscle fibers more rapidly than other modalities of training.
Gymnastics
Gymnastics is an extremely valuable training modality because of its reliance on the body’s own weight as the sole source of resistance. It allows a unique strength:weight ratio unmatched by other modalities.
Power
Power is the undisputed king of performance. Power is hard and fast – jumping, punching, throwing, and sprinting. All are necessary to achieve elite athleticism.
Cross Training
Cross training is usually defined as participating in multiple sports. But in CrossFit, we view cross training as pushing beyond the normal demands of your sport or training. This includes functional, metabolic, and modal cross training, going past normal motions, metabolic pathways, and models or sports common to athlete’s sport or exercise regimen.
Functional Movements
Functional movements are those that mimic motor recruitment patterns found in daily life: squats mimic getting in and out of a chair, deadlifting mimics picking an object up off the ground, etc. These are important to practice because they are mechanically sound, and therefore safe. Second of all, they elicit a high neuroendocrine response.
And Many More
Just like CrossFit itself, OnePlus isn’t just about any single modality or exercise. We focus on a well-rounded approach to fitness that involves everything from diet and health to body composition and muscle movement. Click here to learn more about our holistic approach to fitness and health.
